Graphic Novel Projects

This page was created so an agent could look at my graphic novel projects … which I have many. But the general public can view this as well. I have nothing to hide.

The first one is:

LOST GIRL OF THE LAKE by Joe McKinney & Michael McCarty
The novella which this was based was on the Bram Stoker Final Ballot for Best Long Fiction of the Year.

The graphic is a stand-alone book.

The next project is:

I KISSED A GHOUL by Michael McCarty.
This YA was on the Bram Stoker Final Ballot for Best Young Adult Fiction.

I can see this being a series of graphic novels …

The next project is:
The Scream Queen Series …

This is a planned series of graphic novels based on the books by Michael McCarty and scream queen horror actress Linnea Quigley who has appeared in such movies as RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD, NIGHT OF THE DEMON, HOLLYWOOD CHAINSAW HOOKERS, INNOCENT BLOOD, CREEPOZOIDS and many more….

Based on the books: NIGHT OF THE SCREAM QUEEN by Michael McCarty & Linnea Quigley, RETURN OF THE SCREAM QUEEN by Michael McCarty & Linnea Quigley & Stan Swanson… but I foresee several other projects as well

Ho Ho Ho – Horrors! Stocking Stuffer Ideas for Horror and Sci-Fi Fans (Updated)

Looking for stocking stuffers for fans of horror and science fiction on your Christmas list? It doesn’t matter if they have been naughty or nice, Michael McCarty books (kindle, nook or trade paperbacks) make great gifties…

But before I get to that list …. in the spirit of the season …. here are a recommendation of other authors. .. yes, I do read other authors besides myself.

This my Top 10 List Of Other Authors’s Books To Give As Gifts

1. TO THE VANISHING POINT By Alan Dean Foster.
Frank Sonderberg rents an RV to take his family on a vacation across the desert to go to Las Vegas. On the way, the pick up this beautiful hitchhiker and singer named Mouse and the trip goes to Hell … literary, getting chased by hideous monsters, encounter a demonic gas station, fire breathing cops and ax-wielding rats.

It was a tremendous honor that Alan Dean Foster wrote the introduction to my book MODERN MYTHMAKERS …

I also did an interview blog with Mr. Foster and here is the link:

2. THE ILLUSTRATED MAN by Ray Bradbury.
I love Ray Bradbury’s work and was lucky enough to interview him twice, once for my first book of interviews called GIANTS OF THE GENRE and MODERN MYTHMAKERS: 35 Interviews with Horror & Science Fiction Writers & Filmmakers.

THE ILLUSTRATED MAN is a book that I love to read during the winter or summer or fall … anytime of the year.

The book is a novel, but is a episodic novel where all the short stories are connected loosely together as one plot.

3) Duma Key by Stephen King

Stephen King has some great novels, but I keep on giving this one as a gift. Here is my review of the book:

4) SPARROW ROCK by Nate Kenyon

I really like Nate Kenyon’s BLOODSTONE, THE BONE FACTORY and THE REACH books. But SPARROW ROCK is one of my favorites. The story-line is about six teenagers who break in and party in a bomb shelter. Unbeknownst to the teens, the world is about to end very soon. An exciting and creepy page-turner.

5) BLOODSUCKING FIENDS by Christopher Moore
I interviewed Christopher Moore for MODERN MYTHMAKERS too. But, love his goofy and weird vampire trilogy: BLOODSUCKING FIENDS, YOU SUCK and BITE ME. This is book one in the series, so it is a great place to start.

6) INTENSITY by Dean Koontz
I also interviewed Dean Koontz for MODERN MYTHMAKERS. And have been a big fan of his for years. This book is a thriller that grabs you by the collar and doesn’t let go until the last book. Very creepy, very highly recommended.

7) LITTLE PEOPLE by Daniel Charles Wild.

The debut book and it is a fantasy story about fathers, sons and monsters and reasonably priced too.

8) DOG DAYS by Joe McKinney

I am not going to say much about the book, because once I start talking or writing about it, I just can’t stop. Set in 1983 in the burbs of Houston, a hurricane rocks the community … not only bringing floodwaters and strong winds … but a supernatural killer in the swamp lands of Clear Lake.

It is a brilliant, brilliant book

9) ISLAND by Richard Laymon

Been a big fan of Laymon for year: FUNLAND, THE STAKE, BITE, THE LAKE. Of all those terrific terror reads, my favorite has to be ISLAND is a great book to give as a present.

You ask why …. read this blog and find out why:

10) WINTER HORRORLAND by Jody R. LaGreca

Jody & I co-wrote the BLOODLESS series together: BLOODLESS, BLOODLUST and BLOODLINE.

This is a solo horror novel of hers and it is brilliant.

Here is my blog review:

Still interested in Michael McCarty after those 10 books?

Okay …

Here are ideas of my own books to stick in your stockings

1) GHOSTS OF THE QUAD CITIES by Michael McCarty & Mark McLaughlin

Divided by state lines and the Mississippi River, the Quad Cities share a common haunted heritage. If anything, the seam that runs through the region is especially rife with spirits, from the Black Angel of Moline’s Riverside Cemetery to the spectral Confederate POWs of Arsenal Island. Of course, the city centers have their own illustrious supernatural residents – the Hanging Ghost occupies Davenport’s City Hall, while the Phantom Washwoman wanders Bettendorf’s Central Avenue. At Igor’s Bistro in Rock Island, every day is Halloween. Michael McCarty and Mark McLaughlin hunt down the haunted lore of this vibrant Midwestern community.

Introduction by The Amazing Kreskin. Available in paperback and Kindle formats:

2) FRANKENSTEIN’S MISTRESS: TALES OF LOVE & MONSTERS by Michael McCarty (Grinning Skull Press)

(1 novella, 8 short stories)

This collection of horror and science fiction stories includes a sequel to Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein – with Victor Frankenstein, the monster, and a blind fortune teller named Rose Blackthorn. In other tales… even the apocalypse won’t stop Leonard Cartwright from searching for his wife in the ruins; after getting struck by lightning that left him in a coma for twenty years, Jackson Heyward awakens with the ability to talk to the dead; will the discovery of the power of invisibility help save Dr. Nick’s failing relationship with his soulmate, or will it aid in its destruction? And many more twisted tales.

Mark Gaitlin is 15, the son of one of the wealthiest men in Texas, and on the most boring summer vacation of his life. His days are filled with the pomp and circumstance of country club life, while his nights are a parade of one embarrassment after another at the hands of giggling teenage girls.

But the piney woods above Lake Livingston are dark at night, and hold many secrets for an impressionable youngster on the cusp of becoming a man. And one night, after skinny dipping in the lake with a mysterious local girl, Mark Gaitlin’s life takes a crazy turn into the fire and brimstone religion of backwoods snake handlers and abandoned villages haunted by old family secrets. If he can survive the snakes and the ghosts and his own family’s dark history, he just might make it out of the woods alive.

And something else…he just might become a man.
