Divided by state lines and the Mississippi River, the Quad Cities share a common haunted heritage. If anything, the seam that runs through the region is especially rife with spirits, from the Black Angel of Moline’s Riverside Cemetery to the spectral Confederate POWs of Arsenal Island. Of course, the city centers have their own illustrious supernatural residents – the Hanging Ghost occupies Davenport’s City Hall, while the Phantom Washwoman wanders Bettendorf’s Central Avenue. At Igor’s Bistro in Rock Island, every day is Halloween. Michael McCarty and Mark McLaughlin hunt down the haunted lore of this vibrant Midwestern community.

EERIE QUAD CITIES

by Michael McCarty & John Brassard Jr.

Introduction by The Amazing Kreskin

Afterword by Rick Lopez of Igor’s Bistro

Like the mighty Mississippi River that cleaves the Quad Cities, the region’s history can trap the unwary in some unexpected eddies. Peer through the fog of the past to catch a glimpse of the Tinsmith Ghost of Rock Island or the river serpent with a price on its head. Get the back story on the Banshee of Brady Street, read the 1869 report on a Bigfoot sighting near East Davenport and run the numbers on local UFO activity. From phantom footsteps in the Renwick Mansion to a mausoleum heist in Chippiannock Cemetery, Michael McCarty and John Brassard Jr. trace a path through the shadowy heritage of the Quad Cities.

WRITTEN IN STONE
by Michael McCarty

(Tammy Pescatelli and Michael McCarty at the Davenport, Iowa Funny Bone Comedy Club – Photo by Raymond Congrove)

Back in the 1990s …

When I worked at Funny Bone Comedy Club doing promotions and occasionally did comedy myself. My coworker was a lovely young lady Tammy Pescatelli. She had just started doing comedy at the time … and it was a sunny afternoon and nobody was around. In the back, outside, the strip mall where the comedy club was located, there was a new sidewalk put in. And Tammy and I went back there and wrote “Tammy P” and “Mike M” and I had her draw a star, because I knew she was going to be a star someday.

The next day .. they redid that sidewalk and erased the names and star.
I wish they would have kept it … it would still be there today.

Since that time,  I stepped of the comedy stage and started writing books. I have had 45 books horror, science fiction and nonfiction published.

And Tammy’s comedy career has really taken off like a rocket. She appeared on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing in 2004.” In 2010, Pescatelli won Comedy Central’s “Standup Showdown” In 2004, she was a finalist on the second and third seasons of “Last Comic Standing.” She was one of the Final Five on NBC‘s “Last Comic Standing” and appeared on the “Tonight Show” with Jay Leno.

Pescatelli co-created, executive produced, wrote and starred in a reality TV show on WE TV called “A Standup Mother.”
